Personal statistics

Personal statistics on what each student have read and answered questions on is something we are constantly working on at Cortexio. Visualizing what is left, what has been done and how well a student knows each part of the course is an important part of the learning process.

When a student starts to reason about learning and learning herself; start thinking about working memory, study technique, forgetting curve, to achieve the knowledge goals in the course, it has a positive impact on the study results. In psychology / pedagogy it is called metacognition and is a subject where research is ongoing.

Recently we added a statistics page on Cortexio that shows an overview of recent activity with suggestions on what needs to be repeated.

Customized Course

Hypocampus is a site for Medical students built on Cortexio.

Since the launch of Cortexio, we have built the system on high quality materials: Text, images and questions.

The text has been divided into books that often correspond to a course – but not fully, and not for everyone. Courses differ depending on the school, year, teacher, etc. That is why we are working hard to make it possible to reorder, select and add material to a course based on the material in the library together with material created by students and teachers. The material does not necessarily have to be chapters but can be something that supports the studies: presentations, documents, pictures etc.

The university students in Cortexio can create their own course or follow a course created by another student. It is also possible to make the course hidden, or only open to those who are invited to the course.

As the owner of a course you can also make additions to the material directly in chapters.

We are also working on the opportunity to create Quiz for a course – well-selected questions on the course, based on self-composed and existing questions. Here there is some work left to make question creation easy to use before it is opened up to all students.

Usage statistics second half of 2017

Hypocampus is a site for Medical students built on Cortexio.

Hypocampus started second half of 2016 and steadily grew to a little over 1000 users until the turn of the year. After the end of the first half of 2017, we had just over 4,000 users – Medical students, AT doctors, Doctors with overseas European degree, Sub-doctors and Specialist doctors.

The compilation for first half of 2017 can be found here: https://blog.cortexio.se/2017/07/03/usage-statistics-first-half-of-2017/

During second half of 2017, the group of medical students grew from 4000 to 6700.

At Hypocampus.se anonymous data is collected to see how the system is used and to be able to improve it. (A session starts each time a user visits the page, and ends when the user has been inactive for a few hours.)

We included data until Jan 2018, when many students have an exam at the autumn term course.

A pleasing difference from VT 2017 (VT=Spring Term, HT=Autumn Term) is that the use is more evenly distributed and not only concentrated to the exam period at the end of the year.

Here is a comparison between spring and autumn 2017:

Here we see a clear trend with more page views before the exam.

Events in Hypocampus are, for example, answering questions. Here we see an even clearer trend of users making the most questions in connection with the exam. And questions are good! https://blog.cortexio.se/2017/03/06/test-enhanced-learning-with-cortexio/
